Outdoor Survival Skills Adventure (SOLD OUT)

Highlights from our Adventure (11/8/22)

Learn Outdoor Survival Skills!

We’re thrilled to be partnering with John Fishback to create a one-day crash course on outdoor survival skills. We'll learn about primitive shelters, edible plants, fire making, water filtration, and creating bone knives and blowguns. John has over 25 years of experience teaching outdoor classes (when we called him to discuss the class, we interrupted his bear hunt!).

The idea of our adventure trips is to expose the kids to all there is to discover out in the world. We're trying to spark their interest — perhaps in a future interest, hobby, career, or mentor. Our hope for this adventure is that every kid will walk away with a greater appreciation of the outdoors and that we will light the 🔥🔥 of curiosity in at least a few.

This adventure is open to kids ages 7-12 and costs $75 per kid (lunch and transportation is included).

Schedule

Tuesday, November 8th

8:20 AM: Meet at the Hardgraves’ house

8:30 AM: Depart

9:00 AM: Arrive at Severn Run hike

Learn about water filtration. Boil water and prepare freeze-dried backpacking food (it’s tasty!).

11:00 AM: Arrive at John Fishback’s property in Crownsville

Intro to survival skills. Practice one match fire making and make a bone knife.

12:00 PM: Lunch

We’ll cut meat from a deer (previously hunted and cleaned) and then roast it over the fire. Yes, seriously! We’ll also have pizza and other snacks. NOTE: if the kids (or their parents) want to skip the deer cutting part, just let us know!

1:00 PM: Make a blowgun or bow

1:30 PM: Back into the woods and down by the swamp

First, we’ll develop our senses with some awareness exercises (blindfolded rope walk, etc.). We’ll learn how to build a primitive shelter. We’ll explore what plants are edible (acorns, pine needles, cucumber root) and prepare them.

4:00 PM: Depart for home

4:30 PM: Pickup at the Hardgraves’ house
