What We’re Building

Think back and trace the origins of your passions or hobbies. They typically begin with a spark. Perhaps it was a serendipitous conversation, book, or trip that opened your eyes to previously unseen possibilities and new worlds to explore. Unfortunately, for most of us, these moments are far too infrequent (and rarely if ever happen in school!).

What if a school could create a world where these sparks were routine? How would a child feel about going to a place like that? How would their life change if school continually amplified their curiosity and love of learning?

We're building a school guided by three educational philosophies: Montessori's approach to child development, Acton Academy's learner-driven communities, and the character-building of outdoor adventure programs like Outward Bound. Our vision is to create an exceptional school by thoughtfully integrating these approaches.

We're seeking our first Montessori expert to lead the creation of a Montessori primary environment. You will also collaborate with our team to improve our Acton Academy elementary program by integrating aspects of the Montessori approach. This is a unique chance to not only build a Montessori primary program but also contribute to broader conversations about how different educational approaches can inform and strengthen each other.

  • Take the lead in establishing policies, procedures, and the daily schedule for this new program

  • Support children's transition to the elementary program

  • Work with the elementary team to integrate Montessori methods into the Acton Academy elementary program

  • Thrives in a startup environment.

  • Loves to experiment, evaluate, and improve.

  • Has fun and brings joy to the studio.

  • Respects all children, understands the difficulties they encounter in their lives, and is devoted to setting compassionate and gentle boundaries.

  • Learns quickly and works hard.

  • Has proven excellence in written and oral communication skills.

  • Is an independent learner who takes direction well but can also work with little direct guidance.
